Karen,

This is a tough one because people have learned many different ways. The only way that I really learned was by jumping in head first and doing it. Get your hands on an HTML editor and practice, practice, practice! By using a WYSIWYG editor, you can first get the editor to construct the page and watch the resulting code grow as you build. You'll quickly learn the tags and how to correctly format them.

I code in Dreamweaver like many people and use the split screen interface. That way I can see immediately how changes in my code impact the look and function. I'm big on using the actual visual editor and prefer to code by hand.

I have had an "Idiot's Guide for Creating a Web Page", It is old and is badly outdated but is still a great little reference to have on hand for the basic html code in it. Something like that could get you started. I have seen "HTML for Dummies" but do not have it. All html code is available online, just google what you are looking for, you will get more than enough references. The book I have is isbn 0-7897-2256-9 and should be really cheap used. Hope this helps a bit.
check out http://www.lynda.com/
they have an html intro, and also tutorials on dreamweaver (if you wish to get elaborate) but their simple html overview seems ok. if you search lynda.com free pass on google you can probably locate a free 7 day pass for that site.
Karen,

A great place to learn basics is http://www.w3schools.com/default.asp. They have HTML and other web software.

Cheers. Bob
I have sent several people to LearnIt and Sonic here in San Francisco. Now sure what their reach is - I know that LearnIt has other locations (www.learnit.com), not sure about Sonic. I was able to release a website I built to my client (small business) because he took a two-day class that was so good, and he's a bit of a quick learner.

It's intense for 2 days - but you learn enough to make edits - not how to build the next Facebook or anything.

Wow, Thank you all so much
You have given me some great advice and places to start. I have a couple of projects that I would like to work on and I will need lots of expert advice. I have always found it easier to learn something when I have purpose.

I am going to set time daily to learn. Sometimes it takes me awhile but when I get it, I HAVE GOT IT

I dont even know how I ended up finding Vertical Response but I am glad I did

Karen
Try looking on YouTube for some videos.
Hello, I have a couple of e-books that will help you They were given to me and I will pass them on. The only thing is , I got them for free and so shall you it comes with full resale rights and if you decide to sell these then I would like some monies. If you choose to give them away then the same goes to the people you give these to. that way it is our honor that we have. Remember if you resell them when they pay you , you pay me and then I pay the person who gave me them for free and if they sell them they pay you , you then pay me , Then I will pay back. Please let me know if you would like them it here are a total of 7 e books with even a editor. So Please email me if you are interested in this Daniel
Also if you don't mind giving me some feed back here is my link...... http://www.bigticketdepot.com/ddalpezzo
Karen,

Joe is correct. You seem to be wanting to be self-taught. My favorite site is: http://www.htmlgoodies.com/

I have also attached a FREE html editor that I use. It is simple, easy and can handle much more than just HTML. Give it a try. You NEVER have to buy.

It allows you to look at your work in your browser by clicking on that icon. You can also use various browsers to make sure you page looks good in each one.

Hands-on practice will teach you how, but, it is best to know the tags and understand what they do.

Arachnophilia (attached upload file) will do most of the work for you including color changing backgrounds, creating tables of any size, and more. You can copy and paste code from other web site as well. I have stolen lots of code by using the "View Source" feature of IE and FireFox, the two browsers I use. Once the source window opens and you see the section of code you want, just highlight, Ctrl-C, move to Arachnophilia and
Ctrl-V the code into your page where you want it to go.

You can also use "View Source" to learn HTML. If you see a page you like, view the source code to see how it was done.

It will take a little time to get familiar with the coding and Arachnophilia but it is more than worth it. You will achieve any level you desire if you are wiling to keep learning.

If anyone else would like to try Arachnophilia, let me know. There are two versions on the Internet. I prefer the older version, however, the new version includes a few more features.

Jay

Once again thanks, Daniele I would love to take a look at the books and of course I would pass them on with the same agreement. I do believe what is freely given should be given freely.
Andy, Joe, Steve, James, Nathan, Bob, and Jay I am working through each suggestion and following up on them. I will get back to you on how it works for me. I might be slow in responding but I want you all to know I appreciate the time you take to help.
Much success to all.
K
Karen,

Take your time with responding. No response is necessary for my suggestions. You can get overwhelmed by all that has been thrown at you. Learning is your top priority, NOT responding.

It won't be too long and you will be helping us with our questions.
