VerticalResponse Marketing Lounge

I'm looking to create an e-newsletter for the nonprofit I work for, and I've been playing around with Vertical Response's services. I'm not sure the templates they have will work for us, but I wanted to get a sense of what others were doing with Vertical Response's email services.

Could you please post examples of your own e-newsletters? Please say whether it is using a template or is your own html creation.

Thanks,
Joy

Hi Joy,

We do a number of newsletters for our clients, but the one we are most proud of is a monthly newsletter we handle for Virgin Money South Africa which can be viewed at http://www.extraextra.co.za

You can also see our portfolio at http://www/mailgloo.com to get an idea of the different kinds of mailers out there.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Hi Kendrick,

I dont think there are any particular templates for carpet cleaning, but we could put one together for you if you wish? Get in touch at grant.mills@mailgloo.com and we can discuss what your needs are.

Thanks

Hi Kendrick,

We have designed a couple of newsletters for an Oven Cleaning company, not quite carpets, but similar. If you are still looking for a design, then email me.

Joy, here is a newsletter that we use. It is our own HTML creation, but we needed to do a lot of tweaking to get it to work with VR and there are still some things that we cannot get to work (like the color of the links). It is much better for us than the templates that VR has, but still isn't quite what we want.

Thanks Jed. We're going to try and create our own html template as well. What other kind of issues did you run into when use VR for your html creation?

Hello Joy,

I've had great success using VR's templates for our non-profits' newsletters. We host and archive our newsletters on our website - w/ the VR template I can easily attach a link to our website, the pdf newsletter, our events page, etc.

We've also built our electronic mailing list quite a bit via the VR opt-in box on the front page of our website.

Check us out @ www.askforkids.org - I would be happy to send you an email of what we put out, my contact info is available on our site - 'About Us' - our you can certainly opt-in to our mailing list, our next edition is due out in December!

Best of Luck,

I always like to comment when anybody says "templates" in hopes that the VR team will hear my comments.

On the one end of the spectrum you have people who "just want something tidy and professional looking"- for them there are VR's templates. On the other end of the spectrum you have the highly html-literate and graphically talented and they can make their own templates. Then there are vast numbers of us who are left a bit at sea. We have to find/pay someone to create a template for us- that process is time consuming and expensive, and adds a substantial barrier to using VR. We might love the concept and the user friendliness and the excellent pricing of VR, but the html/template problem is going to make us either not use VR or have a bunch of hurdles in our way before we can do so.

I sincerely wish VR would create more and better template selection.

You see, I am not even html-friendly enough to post the example of the template I used here for you to see- I wouldn't know how to do that.

This is my business:
http://www.whirlingturban.com/

It's a fashion business so we are image-conscious. But most businesses are image-conscious. Personally, I don't think there are choices in VR's templates for the image-conscious.

What I did was I waited until I got a newsletter I liked from a big company (that could afford expensive graphic designers) and I had my web jockey use that one as very strong inspiration for our newsletter template, and then he also inserted that template into the VR format and made it work.

But if I am ever in hurry and I want to put together something fast using VR templates- to make a Halloween greeting or some such- I find myself completely out of luck using VR templates- I can't stand any of them enough to have them represent my company. I don't go anywhere else- VR is my email company- I just end up not sending one at all.

I'm a big fan of VR I just wish they'd hear the call about the template problem.

Katherine,

Being an official VR partner, we have been working with VR customers for quite some time now and having seen this issue with templates, we have decided to put our email design expertise to good use and begin creating great looking templates specifically for VR users.

You can check out our beta site at http://www.mailglootemplates.com and we have a great newsletter template coming early next week which I'm sure you will all love. We have a 50% discount introductory offer at the moment - just use the voucher: VR123.

Becuase this is a beta phase and we want to make our templates easy to use for all VR users, we are encouraging feedback not only on how we can improve the templates, but also what kind of templates you would like to see in the future.

You can forward any comments and feedback to info@mailglootemplates.com

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you

We are a small animal rescue nonprofit that has used VR for a few months now. We found one newsletter template that worked and as you can see from the links below, we simply edit the copy each month, but generally use the same template.

We also use a VR template (the last link) to send out reminders about single events.

I, too, was somewhat disappointed with the lack of templates that seem to fit a nonprofit newsletter, but have been able to edit and work with the templates that are there to make it work.

Any feedback would be appreciated as we, too, are somewhat new to VR.

Thanks.
