Hello

I have created a personalised opt-in form for on my website and it works. I'd now like people to receive a pdf booklet from my website after they have signed-up as a small gift from me. Is there a way of triggering an email after they have confirmed their details and they have joined my new list? I thought this might be done under scheduled emails - but I can't find what I'm looking for.

If you can explain how I do this, or point me to the right help pages, I would be very appreciative.

Hi Jennie,

Great question -- you can customize the email sent when someone completes your opt-in form. Here's how:

-- sign into your VR account and click the "Lists" tab in the top nav bar;
-- click the "Opt-In Forms" in the sub navigation along the top of the screen (just under the main nav bar);
-- select the opt-in form you have created and then the "Customize Your Opt-In Email" tab;
-- add the URL link to your .pdf booklet (or, if your not hosting that on your site, a link to where it can be downloaded on your site) to that email.

That's it -- if you run into any snags, post your questions in this thread or contact Support at 1-866-683-7842, Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific time.

Thank you for your lovely and prompt reply - it I has helped me: I can now take people to their free download gift - fantastic!

I was wondering if you might be able to help me do the next bit too? I can't find the information I'm looking for. If it's right under my nose - please just let me know where to look!

When people have opted-in, I'd like to then send them 2 more emails in a series. If I set up these emails - is there a way that after the opt-in the first email is automatically triggered, followed by a 2nd one a week later? Or do I have to do this manually?

Hi Jennie,

You're correct: subsequent emails after that initial email will have to be done manually. You can segment your list based on the creation date (i.e., the date someone completed your opt-in form), and then send the follow-up emails to that segment. Check out the tutorials on how to use the segment tool here: http://www.verticalresponse.com/tutorials/lists/; after watching these tutorials and getting familiar with the tool, try out some test segments based on the creation date.

It may seem a bit daunting at first, but take your time and do some experiments. The segmentation app is a powerful tool that will come very handy as you develop your email campaigns.

Thank you - I will get my head around the segment tool. Before discovering VR, I was doing everything manually without any feedback from my emails sent. VR is going to completely change the way I connect to and communicate with my clients and Tips readers - and that's truly great!

I'm not sure you can "trigger" an email after they have confirmed their details...someone else would have to address that...

What I do is use the "redirect" to my own "Thank You" page after they've signed up for my newsletter and on that page I put a link to download a .pdf.

As it's not good practice IMHO to email a .pdf to new subscribers.

Thank you for your advice.

People signing up to my Monthly Tips are being offered a Tips booklet (pdf) as an incentive to join - so they are expecting to get this as soon as they join. I think I now have the solution by entering the pdf address in the URL that they are taken too after opting in. I'll see how this goes. If it doesn't work I will create a Thank You page as you have suggested.
