Open rate and click rate

I'm new to vertical response, I've sent about 3 emails so far. What is a typical open rate and click rate?

I would consider anything above 20% very good with extremely focused lists going as high as 40% and above.; ▶ Reply to This

I am always looking for new ideas to market my business, if you have any please share. My highest open rate 22%. I have done about 20 mailings and do get some business from them.

I have a pet gift business. My emails are sent to existing and new customers. I have taken webinars on appropriate and effective subject lines and content of the emails. I think I'm overlooking something.
My opt-in rate keeps going up! People continue to join the list so I thought I'd get a better open rate..

My click rate is around 10%. Still low I think, or maybe I have unrealistic expectiations. LOL!; ▶ Reply to This

One item I'm finding with our ongoing e-mail marketing is that some people simply don't open marketing e-mail pieces - period. It doesn't seem to matter how catchy your subject line is, or how compelling your content. Some people just won't bite.

I've generated a list here internally of the persons who have not opened any of our past 4 e-newsletters. That was an eye opener. Vertical Response suggested trying to reach these people another way - like direct mail or telemarketing. Makes sense.
