YES!! First of all, you'll never get a 100% open response rate as I don't believe that VR tracks text opens, so probably more people opened your first email than you think.
Plus, give them a 2nd chance. Key is to always give people a one click to delete themselves from the list. Sometimes I just don't have time to read every ezine. You'll know if people don't want your emails, so don't worry about it, worry about growing your list and improving your subject line so that you get more opens.
Hope this helps!

Down to Earth Marketing
Neil, Patti is right. Don't worry about the open rate, just compare your campaigns to each other so you have a general idea of what to expect. The open rate is declining all the time. Tons of people don't enable images. For some industries, the open rate is as low as 12-15%. Even if your customers don't actually read your email, there's a residual effect of seeing your organization's name in their Inbox on a regular basis.
Some people read the email without 'opening' it. They don't bother to hit 'display images'. I noticed that 20-25% of my clicks come from people who never 'opened' the email.

I think the number of "opens" is related to your subject line. Too much detail and you don't need to open it; not enough and it's of no interest and folks will just delete it.
