VerticalResponse Marketing Lounge

We have about 17,000 emails that have not opened or clicked an email in the past year, and I'd like to get them to opt-in again to make sure it's worth continuing to email to them - knowing that some portion will be people that DO want to receive our email but have images turned off and never click, for example.

Has anyone sent emails like this and have great success with certain subjects? With such a big list, I'm probably going to test a couple of subjects first, but I'd love to hear what's worked from others...

TIA!
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer and Everyone,

Knowing that you’re focusing on kids, parents, education, and museum, just modify these following proven subject lines:

What opportunities are YOU missing?
How to (results) with (item)
Kick Your (whatever) UP a Notch ...
Buy one, get one FREE!‏
Have you heard the news?‏
The simple secret that (accomplishes this) ...
Last chance to grab free (t-shirts)!
Is it time for a ( )?
CAUTION: (action, noun, object) kills (desired result)!
Is this the debate of the Summer?
Honest answers from (you, organization) ...
It's time to exercise your most basic freedom ...
Could you be the one we're looking for?
How to create desire ...
The forbidden secret to (accomplishment, achievement)
Is this holding you back from reaching your goals?
How I (accomplished) in (time period)
(Accomplishment) . . . How do they do it?
What are you up to this weekend?

Hope that helps all of you . . .

I always wondered about capitalization of subject lines> Do you make them read like a book title or like a sentence? For example, for some of the people I work with we use titles like:

Improve your web results with Indianapolis SEO services

or should it be:

Improve Your Web Results With Indianapolis SEO Services

Other examples:

Stay connected with satelite internet solutions

or

Stay Connected With Satelite Internet Solutions

and

Is it time to upgrade your dental insurance plan?

or

I vote for no caps (even the first word) ...

Great point to make, Pat.

If by "why," you're wondering about "no caps" as a preference ...

... it reads naturally -- rather than like sales copy (which alerts your recipient: "Warning! Sales pitch ahead!)

From a deliverability perspective, over capitalization yields higher spam hits

NOBODY wants to be bothered RE-registering for something they already laboriously and carefully regsitered for. If 17,000 havent opened your mail, AND they havent Unsubscribed, they are waiting for an offer they cant refuse. IF that seems logical to you...then send an email that offers those 17,000 something they CANNOT refuse.

In this economy, that would be something free or at a greatly reduced price. Difficult to say what that might be since we don't know what you're attempting to sell.

If you then add a time-dating to the offer, you will get an immediate response. In our experience, the bulk of your response will happen in the first hour after mailing. Test it all you like, but a common sense anaylsis says they love you enough to keep your emails coming, but they aren't COMPELLED to open them.

Compel them!
