VerticalResponse Marketing Lounge

I am looking at send out postcards this year asking our corporate clients to fill out our questionnaire online. Have any of you done this and how was it received by the clients. They are use to filling it out and fax or mailing it back to us.

Thanks

Hi Tom,

This is a great questions and one of the few questions about Survey's in the lounge. Thanks for asking! :)

First off, Do you have the email addresses of your audience? If yes, I recommend sending them an email (permission based mailing list only of course). The chances of getting a recipient to open an email and click on a survey link are much higher than getting them to take a postcard, go sit in front of the computer and type in a url.

If you do decide to go with the postcard, I recommend giving them a great incentive to fill out your survey.

Here is an article on Best Practices for Surveys: http://www.verticalresponse.com/education-support/articles-reports/...

I'm interested to hear the thoughts of other members of the Marketing Lounge. Please share!

We do offer two free wristbands for those that fill out the survey, we are a family entertainment center. I edited the survey to be actually a questionnaire about having company events here at our center. We have done this by paper the last 5 years and I want to try and save some money, time and trees by doing it online.

I thought the postcard would also act as the permission tool for emails in the future.

Thanks for the advice.

I agree a good incentive always helps... our clients have had a great deal of success offering the opportunity to win a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card by responding to the survey.

People love gift cards, especially right before the holidays!

I have and still am using the surveys for our site. I did not use post cards to encourage people to take our survey, but I used email I emailed everyone in our database and asked them to please take our survey. We are an online business directory that is technically still in BETA mode so it for sure made sense to do this so we could get feedback from our users/advertisers. It was VERY well received and we got some fantastic feedback. We even got leads and sold more! I have since added a link to our survey to the Welcome email that all new advertisers get when the sign up so what was a one time deal has turned into a constant flow of information and feedback. The system itself is terrific and very easy to use. So far I have had 260 completed surveys. This method is currently converting at about 9.5%. Hope you find this information helpful! I have been doing email marketing and other Internet marketing for 10-years now so please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.

Hi,
I appreciate the concern which is been rose. The things need to be enhanced because it’s not about the individual but it can be with everyone.

Tom,
I've requested surveys in the past using some different tactics to increase the response.
Since it is an online survey you might consider sending an email with a link rather than the postcard. If you do use the postcard you might want to try using a PURL (personalized URL) to increase response. I found after a few years of asking for the same survey I had to intice them with an offering so we would provide a white paper for download after they completed the survey.

One final thought, depending on the survey data, I have used third party survey systems like SurveyMonkey. Sometimes my clients were reluctant to give me information that they would readily share with another survey company.

Good luck
Roger
