It's time to get your email on! Check out this great article from Brian Massey of the Conversion Scientist.
My favorite line is:
Don’t use email purely to promote sales and discounts. Use it to educate, inform and entertain.

So true!

Just an FYI - As we all know it's the list that's hard to come by. Well there is an interesting article on this blog that I think that you may find interesting about marketing via email through Linkedin. It's worth a read - http://thesologuide.com/blog/

Hi streettrendfashionz,

This question comes up from time to time in the Lounge. The short answer is you cannot do bulk mailings through VerticalResponse. VR is a permission-based email service, which means that the people you are mailing to have to know who you are and have asked to receive your mailings. Purchased or rented lists cannot be used with your VR account.

Here are a couple previous Forum posts that provide further details:

Hope that's helpful! --Chris.

Hi Pat,

If you open the Google Presentation up to full screen (there is a full screen button to the right of the Slide 1/21 text) then you should see an Actions link at the bottom of the screen. Click that link and you'll be given the option to download the presentation in PPT format.

Kim

Hi how do I get a power point copy of the 101 marketing presentation to edit for my use with new clients? I can view it but want to add my two cents for a presentation to startup companies?
Thanks
Pat

Grow a Great List

Whether you're sending email marketing campaigns or direct mail postcards, your customer relationships are the lifeline of your business and nobody knows that better than we do.

There are many ways to build a permission-based mailing list. And, once you have one, it will be a cost effective way to drive sales and stay in your audience's mind.

Here are a few simple ideas to grow your list the right way:

* Place an opt-in form on your website - We have an opt-in form builder that connects to your VerticalResponse account automatically
* Offer Opt-In Incentives - Have special incentives like discounts and offers exclusively for your list members
* Use fish bowls to collect business cards
* Use guest books to get contact information- these work great at events and at the point of sale.
* Include a Forward to a Friend link in all email campaigns
* Send Postcards - If you have postal contact information for customers but not email addresses, send a postcard with an opt-in sign-up offer and URL.

To learn more about growing your list check out our List Tutorials here.

Good lists are not built overnight. It will take some time, but it will be well worth the effort!

Are Your Email Campaigns Average?

One of the most common questions we get after a first email campaign is launched is what is a "good" open, click or bounce rate?

Often, new email marketers are surprised that every one of their subscribers did not open their email. And some are down right offended! In reality, an open rate above 25% should be considered average.

In order to get the best performance from your campaigns, focus your energy on doing the things that will maximize your results.

You Had Me at the Subject Line

According to Return Path, over 50% of consumers determine the value of an email message by using the subject line alone.

Put it to the Test - Test your subject line, test your offer, test the time of day you send your campaign. The day of the week and even the time of day when an email is received can have a significant effect on the response. Does your audience consist largely of people with desk jobs who check email throughout the day, or do they check personal accounts in the evening hours? The impact of timing will vary according to the target market for each company, so there's no hard-and-fast rule. The only way you can determine what's best for your audience is to supplement gut feel with trial-and-error.

Grow a Great List - Create an opt-in form and start using it. Take the time to build your list the right way, mail to it regularly and provide relevant content. A great list doesn't happen overnight, but the results from one will provide you a solid ROI time and time again.

Make it Personal - If you have an opt-in form then you can use personalization to include items like your clients name in the email. And, you can kick it up a notch by adding in other information you've collected, like birthdays or last item purchased. It's a great way to build the relationship with your customers.

I hope these tips help you drive great results, one campaign at a time.
